Brondesbury Wrestler wins Gold at the British Championships

At 6am on Sunday 23rd October 2011 the Brondesbury College Wrestling Team was already on its way to compete at the British Junior Wrestling Championships, being held at Whitgift School in Croydon, South London.

After a 2 month layoff over the summer holidays and with only 4 weeks to prepare, it was doubtful whether or not we would be ready in time to participate in a competition of this magnitude.

The kids worked extremely hard in the short time they had and with Allah’s help, tremendous dedication and perseverance, a team of 8 wrestlers (ranging from 3l – 96 kilos) were able to get in shape for the competition.

All our wrestlers competed in the Schoolboys (under 16) category and with Allah’s mercy all 8 medalled at the championships with one ‘Abdul Muthalleb Gafore’ earning the right to be called British Champion. MashaAllah!

From right to left: Muhammad Warsame Yr10 (Silver 96kg), Isa Wahid Yr8 (Bronze 50kg), Mohammed Salem Yr8 (Silver 41kg), Homam Limam Yr8 (Silver 32kg), Amir Al Zarrad Yr10 (Silver 65kg), Abdul Muthalleb Gafore Yr9 (Gold 34kg), Tarek Muradi Yr9 (Bronze 58kg) & Hamza King Yr9 (Silver 58kg).

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Verily, Allah loves that when anyone of you does a job he should perfect it” (Al-Bayhaqi).

There is still a long long way to go, but inshaAllah we are heading in the right direction. We ask Allah SWT to give us the tawfiq and righteous intention.

NEW CATERING SERVICE AT BCB

Brondesbury has introduced a new catering service. Lunch break is provided by new company who is offering a better quality, healthier and tastier foods for our children and staff at BCB.

PTA will do its best to help with the menu, as you can already see this company is offering more varieties and is also concentrating on quality more than quantity.

Healthy food as a part of a school meal is vital, so could parents consider school lunch for their sons, we need to support the caterer.

If have any questions or concerns please contact the caterer directly at
sabina.maniar@yahoo.com.

Many thanks

As you have all noticed BCB and IGS students have new uniform designed, the V neck jumpers which matches with the trousers can be bought from any clothes shops. It should be plain grey with no stripes or patterns in colour or design on it. as for the PE kit that has already been ordered, BCB has confirmed that it should arrived at the end of October.

Brondesbury College Wrestlers Win 5 Medals at the Southern Region Open July 2011

Brondesbury College Wrestlers Win 5 Medals at the Southern Region Open 2011
On Sunday 3rd July, a small team of wrestlers from Brondesbury College travelled to Bristol in South West England to compete in the Southern Regions Open wrestling tournament.

This tournament is held annually in a different city each year. The teams taking part in the competition were:

Bristol Academy for Wrestling
Birmingham Wrestling Club
Lewisham Wrestling Club
Sharples Wrestling Club (Bolton)
Slough Wrestling Club
Team USB (Leytonstone East London)
Marathon Wrestling Club (Shoreditch East London)
YMCA Wildcats Freestyle Wrestling Club (Castlefield – Manchester)
London Shootfighters (Park Royal West London)
Kensington Wrestling Club
Nottingham Wrestling Club
Tryst Lions Wrestling Club (Cumbernauld – Scotland)
Middleton & Wirksworth Wrestling Club

And lastly, but by no means least Brondesbury College.

This being our first tournament outside of the school, we went there not knowing what to expect, and for me it was all about the kids gaining in valuable experience and giving a good representation of themselves.

We met at BCB at 6am and arrived in Bristol at 8.15 am. The first thing we had to do was weight in:
Ibrahim Madi (11 years old) 55.6 kg,
Isa Wahid (12 years old) 47.4 kg,
Tarek Muradi (13 years old) 53.9kg,
Hamzah Uddin (15 years old) 40.5 kg
Naim Rahim (15 years old) 71.6 kg
Then we had something to eat. After that the boys got changed and we warmed up outside before joining all the other teams inside to warm up further and get a feel for the mats. Wrestling commenced at around 11.30am. There were two 12x12 Olympic mats (MAT1 & MAT2), and initially there was a lot of confusion with the matches in terms of where & when they would take place. The location of matches changed 3 times, but hamdoulilallal the Mansoor Eslami ‘Director of the Southern Regions’ was there to help us throughout.

Masha-Allah the kids wrestled hard and never gave up. Most importantly was there adaab (manners), which was described by the Southern Regions Director as, and I quote:
“…they displayed impeccable manners on and off the mat…’’.

The kids were competitive in all their matches. Their lack of experience on how to win matches showed at times, sometimes resulting in them being in positions they didn’t need to be in, but you can only get such experience through competing and learning from your mistakes. Masha-Allah our team was physically in great condition and they were able to come out on top (with the will of Allah SWT) in some tough matches which could have gone either way.

In the end all 5 of our team earned a well deserved place on the podium, with the following results (in order of weight):

Hamzah Uddin (Bangladesh) Yr10 (42 kg category) – BRONZE
Isa Wahid (Pakistan) Yr7 (49 kg category) – BRONZE
Tarek Muradi (Egypt) Yr8 (54 kg category) – SILVER
Ibrahim Madi (Palestine) Yr7 (55 kg category) – GOLD
Naim Rahim (Algeria) Yr10 (72 kg category) – SILVER

Not a bad result for a School from North West London

TAKBEER! ALLAHU AKBAR!

But more important than results and medals was the fact that the kids really had a great day Alhamdu lil Allah.
Jazaak Allah khayr to all the wrestling squad members, staff, students & parents who helped us prepare for the tournament. And a special thanks to Mr. Wahid (Isa’s Father) who went with us up to Bristol.

ALLAH (SWT) SAYS IN THE HOLY QUR’AN, SURAT AL-MAIDA AYA 2:

“…HELP YE ONE ANOTHER IN RIGHTEOUSNESS AND PIETY, BUT HELP YE NOT ONE ANOTHER IN SIN AND RANCOUR; FEAR ALLAH: FOR ALLAH IS STRICT IN PUNISHMENT.’’

Ladies Night

LADIES NIGHT POSTER.jpg

BCB children at 10 Downing Street - The Apax Mosaic Business Enterprise Challenge

Since November, 8 teams from our school Brondesbury College took part in the Apax Mosaic Business enterprise challenge. In this challenge we were split into teams of four. My team The Fellowship of Nova (FON) consisted of Mohammed Jihad Hasan, Musa Abdurrahman, Aamir Uddin, and Mostafa Mansour. In November we had we had to play a virtual business game in which we had to choose a product and market it, sell it and make it large enough profit. We had three tries at this and then had to create a business ethical strategy for a future car company/manufacturer. This was a task in which we had to talk about our attitude towards the environment, shareholders, customers and supplies we also had to detail how we would set up the company and what types of equipment would be used with a £100 million budget. This was the task we believe got us to the final as in the virtual game we found ourselves in second place, however Mohammed Jihad made an excellent ethical strategy which we believed propelled us into the finals and ahead of our other class mates.

In the game we did relatively well and found ourselves in second in our school due to the efforts of Mostafa Mansour and Aamir Uddin. By February we had to leave for work experience which was for a period of two weeks, when we came back at the end of February we were informed we were in the finals. We were then told of our final and most important task in which we had to compete with five other schools from all over the United Kingdom. The task was to create a real business for our school that would be beneficial, sustainable and profitable. For this we carried out some market research and did some brainstorming. We then came to the conclusion we should set up an after school club called The Fellowship of Nova in tune with our team name.

This would be a club in which we would incorporate academic support, sporting activities, and extracurricular activities. In this we would teach students leadership skills, confidence, Duke of Edinburgh as well as bringing in alumni students for careers advice and to teach students the basics about their professions. This ingenious idea was aroused by Musa Abdurrahman, after deciding to use this idea we all had to create a one minute pitch which we would present to an audience of two hundred people. In addition Mohammed Jihad as team leader created a twenty five slide power point for the business which incorporated all aspects of a professional business strategy with the assistance of Musa Abdurrahman, Aamir Uddin and Mostafa Mansour.

Once we had created this with a logo, business card, and website. We then had to pitch it to our teachers and perfected it further. On Wednesday 2nd March we and two other teachers accompanied us to Holborn and went to Lovell’s Law Firm were the final was to be held. As we walked in we were taken to a private conference room where we practiced our pitch before we did it to an audience of 200 people. As we practiced our mosaic mentors came in and gave us some more advice. Then we were told to head towards the auditorium where we and the others schools would pitch to three judges and the audience, we were told we would pitch second and made our way there. Before hand we made pacts of our PowerPoint presentation and had included our balance sheet and poster for our smoothie department. Then we pitched Mohammed Jihad went up and gave a great introduction and handed over to Musa Abdurrahman who delegated beautifully how our structure and marketing would work. Then Aamir Uddin and Mostafa Mansour once again did an excellent job and completed our pitch.

After this we heard the other teams pitches which we believed were adequate and had flaws. Then at the end we, Musa and Jihad handed the judges a sample of our smoothies which they thoroughly enjoyed. We then heard the judge’s verdict and when we heard we were in first place jumped with joy. We then went and took the Cup and cheque. We then were hurried away in large black people carriers and taken to the London Eye along with mosaic mentors Mo Chaudry and many other influential business men. After that we went in a 4D experience that we all enjoyed. We then went to Apax Equity Firm and Musa Abdurrahman was offered work experience and Mohammed Jihad a job on the spot.

Then we were taken once again the cars to 10 Downing Street were we met Mrs Cameron who had tea with us and gave the opportunity for Musa to have work experience as well as ask questions and she also asked about us.

Then we went finally to James Caan’s offices in Mayfair where we had to do our pitch to him once more. He saw its potential and discussed it with us; he also found a liking to Musa and Jihad. He also gave us signed editions of his book How to get the job you really want. We then got extra presents and were driven back to school where we were picked up by our parents.

The feeling of winning still hasn’t sunk in and we are all overwhelmed, we knew that we will and thanks to Allah we won. We all felt fantastic, over the moon and as if a large weight had been removed from our shoulders. We had enormous thanks for the Mosaic team as well as the Apax sponsorship.

We would like to thank all of them for their efforts and struggles to make our day pleasant. All of us appreciate what they did and are thankful for everything.

Mohammed Jihad Hasan- Team Leader

Musa Abdurrahman- Head of Marketing and Membership

Aamir Uddin- Head of Financials

Mostafa Mansour- Head of Operations

We would also like to thank our teachers, Mr Yousaf and Mr Ali as well of course Mr Chaudry and Mr Clifton and of course our mentor Mr. Adam and Mr. Jawad.
